Go to a website and research hip resurfacing. Try to find a place where people who have experienced the surgery are making posts. Choose one patient to study. List the reasons this person chose to have surgery. What are some advantages of the surgery they chose? (hip resurfacing vs. total hip replacement). What are some disadvantages of that type surgery? Did they experience a positive outcome or a negative outcome? How long was their recovery time? Do they recommend other people go through this surgery? How did they choose their surgeon? Was price/location a feature of them choosing this particular surgeon?
Time Required: 1-2 class periods or as homework/project
Space Needed: One desk per student

This could be an individual or small group assignment. Remind students of internet safety and urge them not to personally contact anyone a message board but use the information given to answer questions.
